Police say a man with a metal detector has found a mortar near a Second World War training ground in Oshawa, east of Toronto.

They say the man was in Intrepid Park on Tuesday evening when he made the discovery.

The park was once the site of a spy school known as Camp X.

Police say a military bomb disposal unit has been called in and is expected to arrive Wednesday morning.
