Sockeye numbers up, but fisheries tension remains
VANCOUVER -- Sockeye salmon are returning to the Fraser River earlier and in greater numbers than expected, which may lead to increased native, commercial and sport fishing opportunities.But even that good news hasn't defused tensions surrounding the highly complex fishery as native bands complain both about the timing of openings and about the restrictions they are facing on the sale of salmon.
