SASHA NAGY

Globe and Mail Update

Sarah Palin has been maligned, mocked and spoofed relentless ever since she, er, broke onto the international politicial scene a few months ago. If the Alaska governor, and erstwhile moose-hunting hockey mom, has shown anything to us in the past few months it is that she can take the criticism that has come her way. Still, it helps when you have a few celebrity friends in your corner to lend support.

Enter The View's Elizabeth Hasselbeck, who is no stranger to the odd public shaming herself (see her ongoing spats with former co-host Rosie O'Donnell). She spoke at a recent Palin campaign stop showing that she is willing to go out on a limb in her support of her chosen candidate. Can you say Palin-Hasselbeck in 2012?

In any event, the video clip, first posted at globeandmail.com on Mon. Oct. 27 led our first Weekly Top 10 by a wide margin over the first of several Obama videos to crack our list.

1. View co-host defends Palin, Associated Press (14,739 views)

See above. Sure Obama snagged Oprah. Palin gets Hasselbeck. Fair trade. The View co-host comes out swinging in favour of the Palin-McCain ticket, make that McCain-Palin, in this video. See the story by the Globe's Siri Agrell: Rogue' Palin eyeing 2012 White House campaign, party insiders say

2. Opie for Obama, Funnyordie.com/AP (8,499 views)

Director Ron Howard must really want to see Barack Obama in the White House. How else can you explain his willinging to reprise his Opie character, arguably his most famous television role in this video, posted on the web site www.funnyordie.com. Howard spent the better part of his career trying to distance himself from the character has he moved from child actor to full-fledged film director. Yet here he is in all his computer-generated Opie-glory.

3. Robin Kay's Fashion Week speech, Globe and Mail (7,329 views)

People outside of Toronto, or those who don't follow the Canadian fashion industry, may be mystified by the attention paid to this video. However Robin Kay, the head of the Fashion Design Council of Canada is a big deal in Toronto, and no more so during L'Oreal Fashion Week. When she made her infamous speech to launch an event last week well, best let the video speak for itself. Read the story here

4. Ferrell back as W, Associated Press (6,939 views)

As video clips from Saturday Night Live go, this very short clip of Will Ferrell spoofing George W. Bush is nothing more than a teaser. However his appeareance on SNL's Thursday night political episode last week is a nice reminder that SNL's skewering of political figures didn't start and end with Tina Fey.

5. Borat says vote, or not, Associated Press (6,755 views)

This video is the second of two public service announcement produced by actor Leonardo DiCaprio to urge Americans to vote in their election on Nov. 4. In the first, a series of big name stars implore the American public to "not vote." In this video, the actors feign confusion over this message, refusing to

go along with the script. Box office heavyweights like Wil Smith, Tom Cruise, Sacha Baron Cohen (in full Borat mode) and Snoop Dogg among others make impassioned pleas to change the country on election day. Oh, Ryan Reynolds was in it too. He's Canadian. Wonder if he "not voted" in the Canadian election on Oct. 14th...

6. One funny baby, Associated Press (6,236 views)

See a pattern developing here. Palin. Ferrell. Fey. SNL is providing its share of buzz worthy video, so it is only natural that people care when one of the show's stars makes some news. In this case, the news is the birth of SNL cast member Amy Poelher's baby boy, Archie. She is married to Canadian actor Will Arnett of Arrested Development fame. Read the story here

Check out the story and video here

9. Obama on The Daily Show, Associated Press (4,592 views)

Barack Obama and Jon Stewart together. Need we say more. Stewart asked the Democratic candidate about some of the negative campaign labels that the McCain camp has been trying to make stick. "Terrorist" "Marxist" and "Socialist" were mentioned. Obama laughs them off. We laugh at Stewart. Somewhere McCain is not laughing.

10. Red states about to go blue? Associated Press (4,281 views)

A serious election video in the top 10? And not a Palin imitator or George W. Bush copycat in sight. This AP video report looked at key battleground states that went red last election, but could go blue this time around. Red = Republican, and Blue = Decmocrat. You're welcome. Hey, I didn't know at first either.
