"Delayering" has become a buzzword for organizations, and 52 per cent of U.S. executives said their company has either reduced the number of management layers or plans to do so.
But 70 per cent said their organization now has just the right number of management layers, according to a new poll of 243 senior executives by Dover, N.H.-based NFI Research.
Size of organization matters, with 78 per cent of small company executives satisfied with their organizational structure, compared with 60 per cent of those in large companies, the survey found.
Most of the rest of execs in both big and small companies favoured more paring, but 6 per cent of those at large companies said trims were too deep and they don't have enough layers.
