Molly Lamb Bobak, the first woman to be named a Canadian war artist, has died.

The artist was born in 1922 on Lulu Island outside Vancouver but moved to Fredericton in 1960 with her husband Bruno Bobak, who was Canada's youngest war artist during the Second World War.

Bobak joined the Canadian Women's Army Corp in 1942 and was presented with the Order of Canada in 1995.

Her family says she painted until the age of 84, did workshops across Canada, taught at the University of New Brunswick and served on various boards and arts councils.

Bobak was predeceased by her husband in 2012 and leaves two children and a grandchild.
