Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has confirmed she will be hosting the 2014 Oscars.

On Friday, she tweeted "It's official: I'm hosting the #Oscars! I'd like to thank @TheAcademy, my wife Portia and, oh dear, there goes the orchestra."

This will be her second time hosting, following a successful show in 2007.

The producers of next year's Oscars, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, said they were "thrilled" to have the star hosting, a news release said.

"There are few stars today who have Ellen's gift for comedy, with her great warmth and humanity. She is beloved everywhere," the release quoted them as saying.

DeGeneres will follow this year's Oscar host, Seth MacFarlane, who was given mixed reviews for his performance.

Crude jokes and musical numbers seemed to put off viewers and columnists.

The Family Guy creator joked about the negative response, tweeting in May, "Traumatized critics exhale: I'm unable to do the Oscars again. Tried to make it work schedule-wise, but I need sleep."

He recommended Joaquin Phoenix host next year's production instead.

The Oscars will be held March 2, 2014.
