The Toronto International Film Festival has now raised 82 per cent of its goal for Bell Lightbox, its headquarters under construction in Toronto. Yesterday TIFF director and CEO Piers Handling announced that $5.2-million in donations have pushed the total amount raised for Bell Lightbox to $162-million.
The Toronto-based Slaight Family Foundation is contributing $2-million to a family learning/emerging artist fund while another Toronto foundation, the Harbinger, gets naming rights to an escalator for a $500,000 donation. Also contributing $500,000 is BMO [the Bank of Montreal]for the creation of the BMO Financial Group Study Centre on the Lightbox's fourth floor.
