David Cronenberg is returning to the anxious universe of Don DeLillo, but not as a director.
Thursday his Toronto office confirmed that the 69-year-old creator of such classics as The Fly, Eastern Promises and A Dangerous Method will appear as an actor in the film adaptation of DeLillo’s 2001 novella, The Body Artist, retitled Body Art for the screen.
Last year Cronenberg directed Robert Pattinson in the movie version of DeLillo’s 2003 novel, Cosmopolis. Cronenberg will play opposite Isabelle Huppert, 59, in the upcoming film, to be directed by Italian director Luca Guadagnino, whose 2009 film, I am Love, starring Tilda Swinton, was nominated for many “best foreign film” honours.
