film review

Freda Kelly was 17 when she was plucked from the typing pool at a Liverpool company and into a rock 'n' roll whirlwind, landing a job as secretary to Brian Epstein and the up-and-coming band he managed, the Beatles. It was 1962.

A fan herself, she also took on the job of running the fan club. Her monthly dispatches were read by thousands of eager fans. Ever the professional, Kelly – still a secretary – has never spoken about her 11 years with the band.

That changed when she had a grandson. "I would like him to be proud of me and see how exciting my life was in the sixties."

In this charming insider account, Kelly traces her history with the band from the very early days until after their split.

Still fiercely loyal, she refuses to dish dirt – or reveal whether she ever dated any of the band members. "That's personal," she says, blushing.
