Veteran Canadian documentarian John Kastner once again displays his remarkable ability to get society’s outcasts to tell his camera everything. Sean Clifton is a schizophrenic man who stabbed a beautiful stranger in a shopping mall while in a delusional state. This film follows him from incarceration in a forensic hospital to gradual release into the community, much to the alarm of his still-traumatized victim. The system is so effective and the outcome so heartwarming that the lengthy story actually lacks tension: A model patient, the gentle Clifton gets well and apologizes after having spent as many years locked in hospital as any convict would have spent in prison.
