Triple 9: One last adrenalized heist and all-star cast are wasted by plotless film Add to ...

  • Directed by John Hillcoat
  • Written by Matt Cook
  • Starring Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie
  • Classification 18A
  • Country USA
  • Language English

Although impressively gritty and in your face, John Hillcoat’s adrenalized crime drama wastes an all-star cast (Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Norman Reedus and Clifton Collins Jr.) with its predictable happenings and bullet-fest fascination.

Kate Winslet is a blonde bombshell Russian mob boss – not making that up – who blackmails bad cops and ex-commandos into pulling One Last Heist.

The film’s title refers to the police radio code for an officer down, a call which the gang uses to divert attention away from a poorly explained caper.

Though compelling in the acting and cinematography, Triple 9’s plot is by the numbers and about nothing. One waits for a sneaky plot turn, but there’s no twist – not even a Chubby Checker cameo.
