Justin Bieber's camp has promised to "vigorously pursue all available legal remedies" to defend the young singer against claims he is the father of a baby boy born in July.
In court documents filed by Mariah Yeater, the 20-year-old Californian woman says she was at a Bieber concert at the Staples Center in Los Angeles last year when she was allegedly approached by the singer backstage. After a bit of talking and a bit of kissing, Yeater alleges, she and Bieber did what one does to make a baby, baby, baby.
"At that time I asked him to put on a condom for protection but he insisted that he did not want to. In his own words, he said that because it was his first time he wanted to feel everything," Yeater states in the court documents, obtained by Star magazine. "When I later realized I was pregnant with Justin Bieber's baby I tried to contact him through his representatives but no one ever called me back."
The alleged post-concert coitus occurred on Oct. 25, 2010. On July 6, Yeater gave birth to a son.
"Based upon this timing, as well as the fact that there were no other possible men that I had sex with that could be the father of my baby, I believe that Justin Bieber is the father of the baby," the court documents state.
Yeater wants Bieber to undergo a paternity test. "I also request that he provide adequate child support for the baby," she says in the court documents.
With news of the allegations sending the Internet into full-on OMG mode, Bieber's representatives released a statement: "It's sad that someone would fabricate malicious, defamatory and demonstrably false claims. We will vigorously pursue all available legal remedies to defend and protect Justin against these allegations."
A court hearing has been set for December, when Bieber would no doubt prefer to be promoting his first Christmas album, Under the Mistletoe.
Yeater, who swore to the encounter under penalty of perjury, may find herself in trouble. At the time of their alleged encounter, she was 19 and Bieber was 16. The age of consent in California is 18.
As for Bieber himself, he has so far chosen to ignore the whole sordid mess.
"I'm going to ignore the rumors ... and focus on what is real. an opportunity to help by doing what i love. Judge me on the music! Love yall!" Bieber Tweeted on Wednesday.
Bieber's fans, however, have so far been happy to be vocal on the matter, vigorously pushing Twitter topics like #WEBELIEVEJUSTIN and #ShutUpMariahYeater on Wednesday.
