Godspeed You! Black Emperor has won the $30,000 Polaris Music Prize.
The Montreal post-rock collective won the annual award for their fourth full-length album ’Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend! at a gala at the historic Carlu in Toronto.
The band didn’t attend the ceremony to claim their award.
The Polaris is awarded to the best Canadian album of the previous year, as determined by a jury of Canadian music journalists, broadcasters and bloggers.
Previous winners include Arcade Fire, Caribou and Feist, who was on hand to present the award.
The show was hosted by rapper Shad and Ottawa singer/songwriter Kathleen Edwards.
