I Wanna Love You

By Jessica Lea Mayfield, from the forthcoming Make My Head Sing … (ATO); streaming here.

Keep your bunnies away from Jessica Lea Mayfield – the smouldering singer is extreme when it comes to her affections. "I'm insane, I wanna love you, you're gonna find this out," she sings, her cool intensity reaching a Glenn Close-Fatal Attraction level.

The focused lyrics to I Wanna Love You, the second single from her imminent third album (out April 15), are darkly set to distorted, spindly guitar notes that conjure up a shoe-gazing, non-reaper-fearing take on an old Blue Oyster Cult hit.

Speaking about the stripped-down sound of her new album, the young Ohioan has commented, "I wanted to simplify things. I wanted to get in the studio and make a rock record and hear real guitar tones and something heavy."

Mission accomplished, then, from a woman who isn't shy in her pursuits.
