Canadian country music singer-songwriter Whitney Rose

Speaking with Rolling Stone magazine about her eclectic 2015 album Heartbreaker of the Year, the indie-country darling Whitney Rose described the record as "a little weird and a little quirky," before adding, "but so am I."

Since then, the PEI-bred songstress signed with Canada's mavericky Six Shooter Records and moved from Toronto to Austin, Tex., where she quickly established a weekly residency at the Continental Club. A tireless road dog, Rose makes it back to her home and native land for a pair of locals dates this weekend, including an intimate show at Toronto's Burdock Hall (Aug. 19) and Riverfest, in Elora, Ont. (Aug. 20).

She says she's quirky. We say she's a refreshing, whip-smart new light on the roots-music landscape.
