“No one can play like this band,” Prince says. “People are going to try, but they won’t be able to.”

The purple eminence said this about 3rdEyeGirl, the power trio featured on the excellently titled Plectrumelectrum, one of two albums he’ll release on Sept. 30.

Included among the three girls of 3rdEyeGirl is Toronto’s Donna Grantis, a shredder of a guitarist who is highlighted on a long-looming LP self-billed as an “electrifying funk-rock statement.”

What’s interesting is that the Minnesota R&B maestro had raved about the all-female threesome as part of Rolling Stone magazine’s spring music preview. Months passed without a release, but now Plectrumelectrum and Prince’s solo effort Art Official Age will officially see the light of day.

Is he late? Not at all. This is a man who parties like it is 1999 any year he pleases. Guitarist Grantis is surely aware by now what fans have known forever: That Prince is an artist of his own time and signs – set your watches to his.
