If you start them up, they’ll never stop. The Rolling Stones, who gave five concerts late last year at the O2 in London, Barclays Center in Brooklyn and Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., have set up billboards in Toronto and other North American cities trumpeting a tour announcement to come this week.
Placed along the Gardiner Expressway, the three giant ads in Toronto feature the band’s iconic lips-and-tongue logo and a song title – Satisfaction, for example – coupled with “Wednesday,” a reference to the date of the tour announcement.
The Start Me Up campaign began over the weekend, with a note from the band’s official Twitter account. The tweet included a sample of the billboard art.
The Stones are expected to announce a tour of 18 cities, with concerts taking place this summer. A rare festival appearance, at Glastonbury (June 28-30), is already booked for a band that continues to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
