Dirk Heinze.

The revived Ritchies Auctioneers in Toronto has a new president, effective Feb. 1.

Dirk Heinze is merging his own specialty auction house, Heinze & Co., established in Toronto in 2004, with Ritchies, reconstituted last year by two investors after the original firm, formed in 1967, was pushed into bankruptcy in 2009.

Heinze previously worked as a specialist in rare books, photos, maps, posters and literary properties with Waddington's in Toronto. In a brief interview Monday, Heinze said Ritchies would hold jewellery sales in February and June in Vancouver and Toronto, respectively, as well as auctions of books, photos, militaria and Asian art in the months ahead, dates to be announced. He also hoped it could host a sale of Canadian fine art either in late fall or in 2013.
