The CBC has one notable union on the horizon, just as it begins to part ways with hundreds of employees through sweeping layoffs: Richard Stursberg, executive vice-president of English Services, and Carole MacNeil, erstwhile host of CBC News: Sunday, are getting married later this month.

MacNeil read her final edition of the weekend newscast with co-host Evan Solomon on Sunday after the public broadcaster cancelled the show last week. But CBC spokesman Jeff Keay said the decision to cancel the morning news program was made by Jennifer McGuire, the new editor-in-chief of CBC News, and not Stursberg.

The CBC has decided to keep MacNeil and Solomon on, and Keay said he expects their new assignments to be announced in the coming weeks.
