Game of Thrones is coming to the big screen. No, the fantasy series by George R.R. Martin is not being adapted into a feature film. But fans will be able to watch the season finale on the silver screen (to the tune of $10).
HBO Canada has announced a partnership with Cineplex to show the season four finale at 29 theatres across Canada on June 15 at 9 p.m., exactly when viewers at home will see it on their televisions.
"Game of Thrones is unparalleled event television, so we are excited to offer the series' die-hard fans an opportunity to come together to experience the season's final episode," Jon Arklay, senior vice-president, Bell Media Agency, brand, creative and marketing, said in a release. "Our aim all season long has been to market Game of Thrones on the level of a massive theatrical release, so we are thrilled to partner with Cineplex to bring this cinematic, epic series to the big screen."
What he didn't mention is the likelihood of die-hard fans dressing up in Game of Thrones inspired costumes at the movie theatres. One can only hope.
A full list of participating theatres can be found here.
But the question remains, is it better to watch the show alone to process its head-crushing emotions in private, or with hordes of strangers?
