HBO is developing Margaret Atwood’s MaddAddam trilogy for a dramatic series, with Darren Aronofsky (Noah, Black Swan) behind the project.
The series, in development, will be based on Atwood’s novels Oryx and Crake, The Year of the Flood and MaddAddam. Set in the near future, the cautionary tale – which Atwood calls “speculative fiction” – imagines a post-apocalyptic world following a natural disaster and creepy corporate control.
Atwood, who is consulting on the project, called the news “exciting” on her website.
“I’ve met [and] brainstormed with the team and they’re terrific!,” Atwood tweeted.
The series is to be a project of Aronofsky’s Protozoa Pictures. Aronofsky may also direct, according to a report on Deadline.com, which Atwood posted on her website. Random House confirmed the project, as did Atwood’s team.
