This just in: Cecily Strong has emerged as the front-runner to replace Seth Meyers as Saturday Night Live's "Weekend Update" host.

It's a sweet gig for the SNL comedian known for her regular character, "Girl You Wish You Hadn't Started a Conversation With at a Party." Historically, the anchor-desk position has led to high fame outside of the legendary series. Look at Chevy Chase, Dennis Miller and Tina Fey – and Meyers himself, who takes over for Jimmy Fallon on NBC's Late Night in February of next year. And, yes, Fallon, another former Weekend Update host, is moving on to replace Jay Leno on The Tonight Show.

Strong apparently will co-host with Meyers for the SNL premiere on Sept. 28, and likely take over the desk when Meyers leaves.

The satirical segment, a forerunner to Jon Stewart's The Daily Show, has been something of an anchor itself over SNL's near four-decade run, and any news regarding its continuation is good news indeed.
