TV: Five shows worth watching tonight: Feb. 22

SCIENCE Nature PBS, 8 p.m. ET/PT There's no shortage of money in public broadcasting these days. Tonight's episode of this venerable science program, currently in its 30th season, launches a three-part series undertaking an exhaustive expedition to examine underwater life all over the planet. The opener travels to Sri Lanka to frolic with a little-known species of “tropical” blue whales that have thrived for centuries. Next stop: Hawaii, where thousands of humpback whales compete for mating rights. Finally, in Alaska, the cameras capture rows of massive killer whales laying in wait to feed upon defenceless young grey whales. Ah, the circle of life.
COMEDY Suburgatory ABC, CITY-TV, 8:30 p.m. ET/PT There is TV life beyond Curb Your Enthusiasm for Cheryl Hines. On this rookie sitcom, Hines is well cast as the ditzy suburban doyenne Dallas, the type of women whose days revolve around shopping and getting a spray-on tan. And although Dallas is a support character to the storyline of transplanted Manhattanite George (Jeremy Sisto) and daughter Tessa (Jane Levy), the show's writers are obviously pushing her up to the forefront. In tonight's show, Dallas is the main attraction as she finally casts aside her philandering husband and gets herself a boy-toy boyfriend (Wilmer Valderrama). Watch for Jersey Shore's Michael (The Situation) Sorrentino in a cameo as a DJ.
COMEDY Modern Family ABC, CITY-TV, 9 p.m. ET/PT The kids grow up so fast these days, don't they? Tonight's episode of this still sparkling comedy series involves a series of disturbing revelations. The distracted dad Phil (Ty Burrell) overhears daughter Haley (Sarah Hyland) revealing something that forces him to immediately change how he sees his little girl. At the same time, Gloria (Sofia Vergara) stumbles upon a secret that Claire (Julie Bowen) would very much like to keep quiet. And on top of everything else, 10-year-old Manny (Rico Rodriguez) takes Cam's car for a spin.
