What's the big deal?
- The big canvas based on this sketch, North Shore, Lake Superior (1926) , is one of the most famous and beloved works in the National Gallery's permanent collection.
- It's Harris at the height of his powers.
- The sketch has never been sold at auction: Helen Band's father, Charles, a major collector, was a close friend of Harris's, purchasing the sketch from the artist in 1946.
- Harris already has five paintings in the top 10 works of art (by price) sold at auction in Canada - the most of any single Canadian artist.
