Sandra Oh will return to the stage next season in a Chicago production of Ariel Dorfman’s Death and the Maiden.
The Grey’s Anatomy star will play tortured political prisoner Paulina in the acclaimed 1990 Chilean play at the Victory Gardens Theater. Artistic director Chay Yew, who previously worked with Oh on The House of Bernarda Alba at LA’s Mark Taper Forum, will helm the production, which is set to open in June of 2014.
Oh, a native of Ottawa, graduated from Canada’s National Theatre School in 1993, but her film and television career has largely kept her away from live theatre. She was last seen on stage in a 2006 production of Diana Son’s Satellites at the Public Theatre in New York. In 2009, she was in talks with director Peter Hinton to return to her hometown to perform at the National Arts Centre, but a production never materialized.
Victory Gardens, the 2001 winner of the Tony Award for best regional theatre, also announced this week that Oh will be part of its new board of artistic advisors alongside playwrights David Henry Hwang, Tony Kushner and Suzan-Lori Parks.Report Typo/Error
