The producers of the troubled Broadway musical Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark have announced the show will now open June 14. Preview performances between April 19 and May 11 have been cancelled to allow rehearsal time as the show is overhauled, and script and staging changes implemented.

The $65-million (U.S.) production, with music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge of U2, had been scheduled to open March 15, but the show's lead producers (including Canadian Michael Cohl) this week announced Spider-Man's sixth delay, and the removal of Julie Taymor ( The Lion King) from "day-to-day duties." Replaced by Philip William McKinley ( The Boy From Oz), Taymor will, however, retain a director's credit.

The production has been beset with technical problems, cast injuries and cost overruns.
