Stephen Adly Guirgis’s profane comedy to open Alberta Theatre Projects season Add to ...

Stock up on your asterisks, Calgary: The Motherf**ker with the Hat is coming to town.

America playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis’s profane, Tony-nominated comedy about love and addiction will open Alberta Theatre Projects 2013-2014 season, artistic director Vanessa Porteous announced Friday.

Following that particularly adult show in the season will be the annual family show: Around the World in 80 Days, a stage adaptation of Jules Verne’s classic story about a globetr**ter in a top hat.

Come winter, ATP’s Enbridge playRites festival will see premieres of four shows that will not be old hat to anyone: Legend Has It, a new improvised adventure by Blind Date’s Rebecca Northan; Games, a play about online gaming by Linda Griffiths; Same Same But Different, a Bollywood-inspired play by Anita Majumdar; and You Will Remember Me, Bobby Theodore’s latest translation of a play by Quebec’s François Archambault (The Leisure Society).

Rounding out ATP’s season are Do You Want What I Have Got? A Craiglist Cantata, Veda Hille and Bill Richardson’s musical hit that includes a song about hats for cats, and The Red Priest, a play by Mieko Ouchi about composer Antonio Vivaldi, who was more into wigs.
