Former National Ballet of Canada prima ballerina Veronica Tennant has won the 2004 Walter Carsen Prize for Excellence in the Performing Arts.

The Canada Council of Arts administers and presents the prize which was established with a $1.1-million donation from Toronto businessman and officer of the Order of Canada, Walter Carsen.

The $30,000 prize recognizes Tennant's achievement on the stage and as a producer/director for film and television.

Past winners include director and playwright John Murrell, and choreographer, director and dancer Brian Macdonald.
