NDP strategist Brian Topp weighs in on Bell V. Silver:

"Well, we increased our caucus from 29 to 37 members last election, an encouraging result - and a better proportionate improvement than Mr. Silver's own party can boast of. What do their results say about them? Are they unchanged since 1867, the last time they saw similar numbers?

"I would say the economic proposals the NDP supports are evidence our party has done some serious thinking in recent years. Many of these ideas seemed to find common ground with the Liberal caucus. And, from what I can make of it, even the Conservatives now find them persuasive.

"Or perhaps Mr. Silver will take the view that Mr. Flaherty is an unreconstructed 70s statist as well."

One question

Yesterday afternoon the always stimulating Robert Silver had a bit of sport at my expense. I deserved it. The phrase "not your parents' NDP" is just the sort of glib short hand that deserves a swift kick in the arse.

That said, Ig, late and reluctant though he may have been, did sign on to The Deal along with every other
