Not: Stephane Dion's plane

Globe and Mail Blog Post

The Liberal leader has been bragging in this pre-campaign period about his environmental policies and his so-called Green Shift plan. Word is that the party will try to reduce its environmental footprint during the upcoming campaign by using buses more and more to transport reporters and the leader. Well, there may be more to this than simply environmental concerns. There are reports out that the Liberals had trouble leasing a plane and finally found a Boeing 737 from Air Inuit.

According to the reports it won't be available as quickly as the Grits had hoped (the Grits are denying this). Ironically, a trace of the history of the plane reveals, too, that it's not that green. According to the Transport Canada website, the plane was built in 1979 and started out with FedEx. Then it was sold to ARAMCO of Saudi Arabia, a Saudi oil company (hmmm … not so green) in 1980. In 2002 it was purchased by Dolphin Air which sold it to Air Inuit in 2007. Remember, in the last election the Liberals flew around in a gas-guzzling 727. The Tories and NDP are flying on Air Canada's 319 Airbus.
