Stephen Harper found himself on the receiving end of professions of love from a self-described “single female voter” today, courtesy of a stunt by CBC TV's This Hour has 22 Minutes.
He was in Halifax fielding reporters' questions when comedienne Geri Hall interrupted. She said her and Mr. Harper were “gonna have some fun,” adding that “girls love a guy with a sense of humour.”
Police rushed in and escorted Ms. Hall from the press conference. As she was being marched out, the comedienne continued her pitch to the Conservative leader.
“I love you,” she called out. “I want to love you.”
The incident over, Mr. Harper turned to the next journalist readying to ask a question: a francophone female reporter.
“Et toi aussi?” he asked – “You also?” – a quip that drew big laughs.
Canadian Press reporter Fannie Olivier shot back: "I'm not going to be making any declarations of love to you today."
As funny as it was, the CBC stunt managed to cut off Mr. Harper's answer to a serious question about serious gas prices.
Tory staffers said police detained Ms. Hall but Mr. Harper later ended up granting her a one-on-one interview.
