The Dion Liberals may not be winning in the national opinion polls, but they're certainly having fun at the expense of the Harper Tories.
A release issued from the Liberal war bunker this week, “Harper's Index,” detailed the fact that Mr. Dion did 18 campaign events last week that were open to the public, including two town hall meetings. This compares to zero for Conservative leader Stephen Harper.
Indeed, the Harper Conservatives are conducting a so-called "bubble" campaign in which the leader is kept shielded from real people. At some events last week, participants at a Toronto riding were wearing tags that said “pre-registered” guests.
The height of protective bubble-ness came Monday when the Tories asked that reporters show up at pre-arranged time behind a government building in Ottawa where they would then be ferried to an undisclosed location for an undisclosed announcement. A Tory tactic to keep disruptive Liberals from attending, perhaps, or a ploy to try to keep protesters away.
Anyway, it turned out Mr. Harper was at an Ottawa salon and spa for an announcement for small business owners.
