Well that was enlightening, wasn't it? Rep. Chris Shays - that noted baseball fan - brings up the infamous Chicago Blackhawks scandal of 1919 (hey, isn't that the last time the Hawks had a winning season?) Windbags Shays and Rep. Diane Watson mispronounce commissioner Bud Selig's name - god knows these folks are busy, what with the war on terror, the war on the middle class and the stock market swirling down the drain because of idiotic loans, which begs the question: SHOULDN'T YOU TWITS BE DOING SOMETHING OTHER THAN THIS?
Yep. Baseball spent another day in front of a Congressional subcommittee Tuesday - you should see the pile of stuff these folks have to deal with and I've finally figured out who Rep. Henry Waxman looks like: Toby from The West Wing
, along with Mr. Ed. Despite what all the experts (and ESPN's Steve Phillips, yet another one of those folks who has gone from being judged incompetent in one job to being an, uh, "insider") were saying, neither Selig or Donald Fehr were roasted over the spit. Must be an election year. In fact, Fehr - who even brought an ad for HGH with him - proved once again that he has one weakness that he simply can't overcome: he's a damned good lawyer and is as far as I can tell is guilty of making sense and doing a job of representing his constituency better than it deserves.
The interesting stuff is that Miguel Tejada might have lied to Congress and that they've asked the justice department to investigate and that Selig didn't exactly step back from the possibility of taking disciplinary action against Giants G.M. Brian Sabean and maybe even owner Peter Magowan for their failure to boot out Greg Anderson and the rest of Barry Bonds' entourage from their clubhouse.
Bad idea, Bud. Be like George W.: don't listen to Congress. Listen instead to the advice of the guy you picked to lead your investigation, former Sen. George Mitchell. Turn the page. Get a better, more transparent drug-testing program in face. Move on. It's over. Done. And from the looks of the economy, these clowns are going to have bigger issues to deal with in the next few months, anyhow.
In other news: the Blue Jays have the best defence in baseball. Talk about something that needs a Congressional investigation.
