GMP lands RBC propreitary trader
Andrew Willis
GMP Securities added muscle to its equity desk last week by hiring RBC Dominion Securities veteran David Beck .
Mr. Beck was part of the proprietary trading team at RBC Dominion, which means he used the house’s money to help facilitate trades for clients. With dealers pulling back on the capital they are willing to commit to proprietary trading, this in an increasingly valuable skill.
Mr. Beck joins GMP Securities GMP-T at a time when the desk is re-emerging as a TSX leader in the volume of its block trading. The dealer pulled in its horns earlier this year, after taking a drubbling on proprietary trading during the market’s mood swings.
This move was first reported on the Bill’s Buzz blog run by executive seach firm Vlaad and Co .
