Spotted: George Clooney at Yorkville's Il Posto restaurant

It’s almost hard to believe that George Clooney dined at Il Posto, a Yorkville mainstay for over 25 years, on Thursday night. Sure, the place is steps from his hotel and it offers a nice enough patio in the summer, but Clooney, who dined indoors with a male friend, could have had his choice of anywhere in the city, from the newly opened Ame to Giancarlo, which features similar but arguably better fare.

Toronto Life magazine gives Il Posto 1 ½ stars, saying “Mirrors are placed for optimal people-watching, though a room full of mature Yorkvillians is a little too civilized for thrilling dinner theatre. The kitchen prepares Italian standards with consistent competence.”

Waiter Jose Galocha, who served the twosome, said Clooney ordered an arugula and endive salad with shaved parmesan followed by whole wheat spaghettini in a fresh tomato and basil sauce while his mate opted for the mixed green salad and fish. Sounds like a simple Italian dinner, notwithstanding the fact that fans who quickly learned of his whereabouts started coming in to use the restaurant’s restroom and lingered on the patio until the star finished his meal. For Galocha, who said no one called on behalf of Clooney to make a reservation, this is the most exciting person he’s ever served. As for all the other restos who missed out on the opportunity, we wish them buona notte and buona fortuna.
