Born in 1945 in Old Quebec City, Jean-Marie Laliberté has lived in Charlesbourg since 1950. He has two children and two granddaughters.

He studied communications and after one year in the private sector he continued his career with the government of Quebec working for various departments. He has always been involved in his community, contributing to both social and sporting activities.

He was elected municipal councillor, first in 1988 and subsequently in 1992, 1996 and 2001. Mr. Laliberté has held a variety of positions, such as chair of the Charlesbourg city council and chair of the ad hoc public transport committee. In 1992 he became a member of the executive committee and in 1996 chaired the Public Safety Commission. He was also a member of the board of the urban community of Quebec City and a director of the Corporation du Moulin des Jésuites.

Since 2002, Mr. Laliberté has been deputy chair of the Quebec City council, chair of the urban safety commission and sits on two other commissions, as well as the committee for the firefighters and policemen world games to be held in Quebec City in 2005.

Mr. Laliberté was regional Vice-President for the Canadian Multiple Sclerosis Society and a member of a number of boards and committees. From 2000 to 2002 he was

Vice-President of the Quebec City health and social services board.
