Daniel Giguère was born on August 5, 1957 in Arthabaska, Quebec, and has lived in the area of Jonquière de Ville de Saguenay since 1975. He is an accomplished communicator and worked in journalism for almost 10 years before starting a career in public relations with the Mouvement Desjardins and Hydro-Québec.

In 1990, he founded Producson with two colleagues – a company presenting and distributing shows at the François-Brassard centre in Jonquière.

In the fall of 1991, Mr. Giguère entered politics as an alderman on the municipal council of Jonquière. He was re-elected in 1995 and elected mayor in 1999, a position he held until February 2002.

In 2000, after two years of making representations before the energy board, Mr. Giguère founded the Coalition for the Defence of Consumers of Fuel in order to demand a fair price for gas. This battle brought him provincial, and even national, recognition and received the support of more than 500 municipalities in Quebec.

Actively involved in his community, Mr. Giguère has made his mark in cultural, social, sports and health issues.

Mr. Giguère fought to ensure the survival of the Jonquière hospital in 1998 and 1999 and is still involved in the work of Pro-Santé Saguenay, which promotes the hiring of doctors in the region.
