Douglas has studied Community, Gestalt, Encounter, group dynamics and communications. In September 2004, he will begin a one year Master's program in Community Economic Development at Concordia University, in Montreal, Quebec.

Douglas works with Native Solidarity News and Eco-Librium News on CKUT, Radio McGill. He has written articles for many newspapers and journals, been interviewed many times on various community radio programs and developed television productions, the last one entitled “How we Change the Weather” on CBC TV. He is also involved locally and internationally in Local Currencies and has presented papers at numerous international conferences on this topic.

Douglas also coordinates a People of the Longhouse Cohousing development across the greater Montreal region including a local social housing group and facilitation of a 55 acre permaculture farm.

Since 1980, he has worked with Source recycling, the La Balance warehouse of the Quebec Reseau des cooperative en alimentation naturel. In 1983, he opened a participatory Community Natural Foods store Indigene with Worker, Consumer, Supplier and Founder member Associations.

Since 1994, he has been involved with ecological design with the Sustainable Development Association, and coordinated the development of Eco-Montreal Tiohtiake Green Mapping, and helped build the international Green Map System. He is also a consultant to the New Brunswick Lung Association and NB Climate Change Hub's development of an Environmental Health Green Mapping. Since 1999, he has collaborated with the First Nation communities of Tiohtiake (greater Montreal region) in a mapping of 105 First Nation Placenames.

Douglas was born in Montreal and is married with four children.
