· A consultant to a number of Canadian and U. S. chemical distributors, a teacher in the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, and a part-time professor at Georgian College and Laurentian University
· Previously was a Professor of Physiology at the University of East Africa, Glasgow University, Southampton University and the University of Zimbabwe

· Holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree from McGill University and a PhD from the University of East Africa
· Has lectured on Africa on behalf of Oxfam and the United Nations

· Lives with his wife Elaine, a school vice principal, in Barrie; they have two daughters.
