Paddy Torsney has served Burlington as the Member of Parliament since 1993. She is a Burlington native and attended Holy Rosary grade school and Cathedral Girls' high school. A McGill Bachelor of Commerce graduate, Ms. Torsney represents Burlington locally, nationally and internationally. Thousands of constituents receive assistance from her and her office each year.

In Ottawa, Ms. Torsney works tirelessly on several parliamentary committees. As Chair of the Special Committee on the non-medical use of drugs, she delivered a unanimous report with 41 recommendations for effective drug policy. Her work as Chair of the Sub-Committee on Electoral Boundaries will ensure Canadians are well represented across the country. She is currently Vice-Chair of the Justice, Human Rights, Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Committees.

As Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of the Environment, Ms. Torsney played a vital role in passing the new Canadian Environmental Protection Act. She has served as Vice-Chair of the Finance Committee and as a member of the Industry Committee. She built cross-border relations as a Director of the Canada-U.S. Inter-Parliamentary Group, and is currently Chair of Hamilton-Niagara Caucus.

President of the Canadian group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Ms. Torsney helps parliamentarians affect change internationally, bringing a parliamentary focus to fair trade negotiations at the World Trade Organization, and promoting the universal ratification of the Ottawa Convention banning landmines.
