Doug Faulkner is committed to representing the needs of northeastern Alberta. A dedicated public servant, Mr. Faulkner has been promoting the needs of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) since moving to the area from Newfoundland, 24 years ago. He is dedicated to the development and growth of the region and will use his experience, energy and enthusiasm to create an effective voice for northeastern Alberta in Ottawa.

Mr. Faulkner was first elected as a city councillor in 1992. He won the mayoralty in a 1997 by-election, and was re-elected in 1998 and 2001. Overseeing the development of a community where the oil and gas industry is expanding and the population is rapidly increasing is a formidable task which he has tackled with confidence and enthusiasm.

He has served as Director for the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA), as President of the Alberta Association of Landlord and Tenant Advisory Boards, and currently sits on the National Board of Directors of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

Throughout his career, Mr. Faulkner has been a persuasive voice on the issues of affordable housing for lower-income residents, the development of strong transportation and infrastructure systems in northern Alberta, and the creation of a healthier environment. His work has made him one of Alberta’s 50 most influential people according to Alberta Venture Magazine.

Mr. Faulkner resides in Fort McMurray and enjoys spending time with his two sons and his grandchildren.
