For almost two years, Julia Turnbull has been working to become the Liberal candidate for the riding of Calgary South Centre.
An accomplished lawyer, Ms. Turnbull has handled thousands of cases and is a proven and trusted representative of Calgary citizens. A resident of the riding for more than 23 years, she has been a strong community supporter, lending skills to the United Way, Calgary Legal Guidance, and Volunteer Calgary as well as being a significant donor to Calgary’s theatre and AIDS organizations.
In l988, Ms. Turnbull founded her own law firm specializing in family law. As senior partner, she helped build the practice into one of Calgary's pre-eminent firms. Dedicated to representing the citizens of Calgary South Centre, Ms. Turnbull resigned from her law practice in 2002 to work full time on the campaign for the Liberal nomination.
In l991, she received the highest possible rating from her peers in the Martindale and Hubbell legal directory. There are no other family law lawyers in Calgary with an equivalent rating to this day. A year later, she was the first Alberta lawyer to be invited to join the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.
In l996, the Lieutenant-Governor of Alberta appointed Ms. Turnbull as Queen’s Counsel. In 1997, she was named president of the Calgary Bar Association, only the second woman in its nearly one hundred-year history.
She is married to Greg Turnbull and they have three children.
