Candidate

Krishnan, Ajay

Ontario, Whitby - Oshawa, Green Party of Canada

Ajay Krishnan, age 23, epitomizes Canadian multiculturalism. Born in India and raised in Kuwait, his family immigrated to Canada at the onset of the first Gulf War. Ajay was drawn to the Green Party from the center-right out of frustration with the status quo: “As a young voter, I became extremely tired of the flow of negativity and smugness from Ottawa. The Green Party was a natural fit—open, fiscally-responsible government with a long-term vision.”

Ajay has strong ties to the area, having graduated from Sinclair Secondary School in Whitby in 2000: “This is a riding on the move. Our population is booming, and that means sprawling homes and more cars. I'm all for growth, but it must be ecologically sustainable. We have to rethink our relationship with the natural environment. It's not about you and me; it's about the generations to come and the legacy we want to leave them.”

In 2004, Ajay graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Engineering Science. During a student exchange to Australia, he saw Green politics at work: “At the time I didn't pay much attention to the Green movement, but then I saw Green MPs and Green Senators affecting real change, and I wanted to be a part of it. It's only a matter of time before the Greens make their mark in the Canadian House of Commons.”
