Rafferty, John

Ontario, Thunder Bay - Atikokan, New Democratic Party of Ontario

A long-time resident of Thunder Bay, John Rafferty is an actor, singer, educator and radio personality. When he was younger, he taught in Nigeria with WUSC for two years, later returning to Africa with WUSC for another three and a half years as a Field Director in Lesotho and Botswana.

John also taught in Yellowknife and was the first high school principal in Rankin Inlet. He continues to be heavily involved as an educator in Thunder Bay, where he teaches occasionally in both Rainy River school divisions and as a musician with Learning Through the Arts.

John is a member of and volunteers with Environment North, Special Olympics Ontario, the Voyageur Lion’s Club, the Knights of Columbus, the Town of Fort Frances Recreation Committee, the Fort Frances Museum , the Fort Frances Library, the Rainy River Future Development Corporation and the Canadian Mental Health Association. He was the afternoon talk show host at CKPR until 2000.
