Recent spikes in food prices and the resulting political upheavals in the Middle East and North Africa have put food security back on the global agenda.  Governments around the world are grappling with how to raise the importance of agriculture in overall economic development.

The Globe's Doug Saunders was joined by Calestous Juma, director of the Science, Technology and Globalization Project at Harvard's Kennedy School, and Kevin Tiessen, a soil scientist with the Canadian International Food Security Research Fund, to discuss the future of agricultural innovations in Africa. This chat is organized in collaboration with Canada’s International Development Research Centre and McGill University.
