What is it?
The 2017 Lincoln MKZ
Lincoln displayed the mid-cycle refresh of its best selling model on an expansive stage at the Los Angeles Auto Show, leaving the luxuriously appointed sedan under spotlights on its own, competing with no other models on-stage.
Signature feature
An optional 3.0-litre V-6 generates 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque when paired with all-wheel drive, 350 hp on rear-wheel drive. That's plenty of power to out-gun competitors from Lexus, Acura, Hyundai and some German sports models. The engine, exclusive to Lincoln, replaces a 3.7-litre, naturally aspirated V-6.
What else is new
Built on Ford Fusion's platform, the front is reshaped while the rear, oddly, looks much the same as the 2016 model. The sleek design instantly reminded critics of the Jaguar XE, though if you're going to interpret cues from another auto maker, why not Jag?
The badge framed in the middle of the grille is also seen elsewhere on the vehicle, as Nissan has done with the new Titan pickup truck. The headlights are shaped like a squinting cat's eyes, similar to Audi's. In the rear, the familiar slim, side-to-side taillights remain. Inside, Lincoln is replacing annoying, glass-smearing touch controls with buttons and dials. Buyers can choose from three Black Label interiors - the Chalet and Vineyard options in the line are new, as is the premium-quality Revel sound system. The panoramic sunroof remains.
Under the hood
The alternative to the 400-hp V-6 is a 2.-0-litre four cylinder. Technology includes radar-guided cruise control, auto park assist and auto hold, which keeps the car in place when sitting at a traffic light when the foot is off the brake; it won't move forward until the driver touches the accelerator.
