Lexus LF-C2 Concept.Michael Bettencourt/The Globe and Mail

What is it?

The Lexus LF-C2 is the latest in a line of hot-looking concepts meant to dispel the auto maker's fading reputation for solid but staid luxury vehicles. This one's a concept version of the recently released RC line of coupes, but looks a lock to make it to production in near identical form.

Signature feature

The non-existent top makes a striking coupe an even more striking convertible, but there's still an air of mystery about the top – since there is none. It's a mystery whether it will be a folding metal hardtop, in long-time Lexus tradition, starting with the SC convertible and continuing with the IS C.

What else is new

The Concept moniker and limited details released by Lexus make it a guessing game as to what features are headed to production, if any, though Lexus details the elaborate process of creating the 2+2 roadster's stunning yellow paint.

Under the hood

Lexus didn't release any information about the LF-C2's powertrain, and whether it harbours the 307 hp 3.5-litre V-6 of the RC 350, the 467 hp 5.0-litre V-8 offered in the production RC F, or the 2.5-litre hybrid four-cylinder that came under the hood of the Lexus LF-CC concept, the gorgeous concept coupe predecessor of the RC coupes.

When can we buy it, and for how much?

No one's saying, but the RC Coupe starts at $57,050 in Canada.

Cool quotient: 4/5
