Are you a single woman looking for Mr. Right? Forget online dating, the awkward blind date, or scouring the grocery-store aisles for single guys. There's an untapped resource right at your fingertips - your car. Here's my guide to 10 of these instant conversation starters.
10. Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder
You can't miss this sexy little roadster's extreme, killer design or the deep intoxicating growl of the engine. Revamped for 2010, this two-seat convertible has a more powerful, new 5.2-litre V-10 engine, which delivers a gut-wrenching 560 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque. It can hit 0-100 km in four seconds flat. But don't go too fast; you don't want to leave Mr. Right in the dust.
This Italian exotic doesn't come cheap. The MSRP is $290,000.
9. Nissan Cube
I expected young, hip kids to flock to this boxy, cool design. But surprisingly it attracted another demographic - men in the 60-plus category. They admired its retro, square design as well as its functional, versatile interior. But the best part is the price. Starting at 16,998, it's well-equipped with features such as six airbags, ABS, A/C, cruise control and power door locks, windows, and mirrors.
8. Cadillac Escalade Hybrid
Marry bling-bling with cool, innovative hybrid technology and you have a hit that'll solicit questions from guys in all directions. Large hybrid decals are plastered everywhere so no guy will miss this green monster machine. Sure, it's slightly better on the environment and your pocketbook than its gas-powered sibling. But it costs $93,390 compared with the conventional gas-powered SUV, which starts at $77,685.
7. BMW Z4 Roadster
The new Z4 is a knockout, thanks to the first female designer of a BMW exterior, Juliane Blasi.
Redesigned inside and outside, the best feature is its folding hardtop. So you can drive this roadster year round while other Z4 owners will look in awe. Going topless is also effortless - push one button and the roof opens or closes in about 20 seconds. Trunk space is a little sparse so limit road trips to one-night stays. Prices start at $53,900.
6. Chevrolet Camaro
There's nothing like a blast from the past to rev up a guy's engine. With its aggressive macho looks and muscle power, baby boomers will swarm to the Camaro. To impress gear-heads, go for the 6.2-litre V-8 with 427 ponies under the hood.
And skip the boring shade of silver in favour of a flashy colour like orange or red. This made-in-Canada redux costs between $26,995 and $40,995.
5. Ford Mustang
Redesigned for 2010, this classic muscle car retains its retro looks, but gets refreshed inside, outside and under the hood. Diehard Mustang enthusiasts will spot the changes instantly and shout from other cars, "Is that the new Mustang?"
Forgo the automatic for a manual transmission - nothing impresses a guy more than a girl who can drive stick. The base price starts at $29,699; the more powerful GT trim with its 4.6-litre V-8 engine and 315 hp/325 lb-ft of torque costs more at $41,199.
4. Dodge Challenger
This retro-themed, rear-wheel-drive coupe looks strikingly similar to the original 1970s-era Challenger. While the interior is a bit lacklustre, the exterior makes up for it.
And so does the power under the hood - especially on the SRT8 trim, which has a 6.1-litre V-8 with 425 horsepower. At $45,995, the SRT8 trim is pricey so you may want to stick with the base model at $24,995. After all, it'll still attract the same looks at a fraction of the price.
3. Nissan GT-R
From the moment the GT-R hit the road, it was an instant hit, especially with teens and twentysomething guys. They flocked to these wheels in droves, snapping photos on cellphones and peering under the hood in amazement.
They were taken in immediately by the GT-R's bold, in-your-face exterior and its menacing exhaust note. The power impresses, too - the 480-hp, twin-turbo V-6 drives all four wheels. But the price is steep: $89,900.
2. Porsche Boxster
This roadster is a showstopper; it attracts guys of all ages. Push the throttle and heads will turn and guys will shout from street corners and other cars. Add a canary-yellow paint job and it's impossible to miss. Even cops can't help grinning at the sight of this cool convertible.
Be careful, though - it's a speed demon. But it can also be practical. With two trunks - one in the front and one in the rear - you can even pack for a weekend getaway. The base model costs $58,400; the top S trim is $70,600.
1. Hyundai Genesis Coupe
That's right - my top pick is a Hyundai!
All new for 2010, this little pocket rocket is a blast to drive. The added bonus: it'll stop guys in their tracks to gawk. I often parked, walked away and returned to find guys surrounding my wheels. Even at the car wash, a stranger approached: "Nice car. I'm thinking of trading in mine for this," as he points to a silver Nissan 350Z.
The price will knock you out, too - it starts at only $24,495 for the 2.0-litre, inline-four, turbocharged engine (210 hp and 223 lb-ft of torque). I'd splurge and go for the top trim, a 3.8-litre V-6 with 306 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. At $32,995, it won't break the bank. Both take regular fuel, too. No wonder this rear-wheel-drive sports coupe takes the top spot when it comes to attracting the opposite sex.
