Many new-car buyers want a good car for a cheap payment. With that sentiment in mind, Paul Timoteo from carcostcanada.com found these deals to consider in the Dog Days of Summer. Here they are in no particular order:
2011 Kia Sportage
“Kia just put new money on them,” says Timoteo. There is a limited number of 2011 Sportage SUVs out there, but to keep those left moving along, Kia Canada has up to $3,000 in cash incentives available and some of the incentive money can be combined with finance and lease offers. (Kia)
2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup (General Motors)
Lincoln
“The entire Lincoln line,” says Timoteo. “The $1,000 Costco thing ends this month and Lincoln still has Employee Pricing. The base MKZ (sedan) lines up with the price of a decent (Toyota) Camry or (Honda) Accord, which this Lincoln is a level above. And the base MKZ is hardly a base car. You get Employee pricing plus a $4,000 rebate and an Appearance Package – for about $33,000.” (Ford)
2011 Dodge Journey
“They refined this one a lot this year. It had the real cheap interior, but not now,” says Timoteo, who points to a very aggressive “loyalty program” in effect at Chrysler Canada. Most loyalty deals are worth no more than $1,000, but if you have a lease on a Chrysler vehicle of any sort, Chrysler Canada “will flip you three grand on a Journey. That’s a lot of car for the money.” (Chrysler)
2011 Ford F-150 pickup
“The EcoBoost (V-6) engine is great and even the new 5.0-litre V-8 is good,” says Timoteo. Take the offer we found on a 2011 Ford F-150 SuperCrew 4x2 with the EcoBoost V-6 engine: Employee Pricing discount of $4,111, plus a factory discount of $6,000, plus a second factory discount of $500 and finance rates as low as 6.49 per cent for up to five years. Keep in mind that the rebates apply to the before-tax amount, which means the buyer also saves on federal and provincial sales taxes. (Ford)
2011 Ford Fusion (Ford)
2011 Ford Escape
“Talk about a model that’s a little long in the tooth, but then you can get one for under $20,000 and that’s good value,” says Timoteo. “This is not a bad utilitarian sort of vehicle. They ironed out the bugs 10 years ago.” Indeed, Ford is months away from launching a new version of the Escape, one based on the European Kuga/Focus platform. But there is nothing “wrong” with the current Escape given its affordable pricing. For August, the Employee Pricing discount is in play, making the list price of the least-expensive Escape just a hair over $19,000. (Ford)
2011 Audi R8
“This isn’t for everyone, but $20,000 rebate? That’s a lot of dough even on a base car for $144,000. You might even find a dealer selling for cost just to get it off the lot. That’s the dealer discount,” says Timoteo. (Audi)
2011 Acura CSX
“First of all,” says Timoteo, “the 2011 is cheaper than 2008 CSX if you compare apples to apples. This is one of those quiet ones: $28,500 list with $1,500 off, less a $2,500 (factory) rebate that brings it down to $25,000. That’s cheaper than a Mazda3 or a new (Ford) Focus. Okay, maybe it is just a fancy (Honda) Civic, but it’s a good car." (Honda)
