Truck bed covers and roll tarps are great for keeping the bed clean and for covering a load, but finding things under that black canopy is painful – especially at night. A smartphone flashlight can only illuminate so much.

We bought the Access LED lights that connect to the tail-light 12-volt electrical wires. The strips come in 12-, 24-, 39- and 60-inch lengths with 3M adhesive backing. It took a few tools to splice into the wires on the rear light, but within 20 minutes, the 24-inch strip was glued to the wall. The lights are wired to operate only when the truck is running.

A push of the button illuminated the tonneau just enough to see to the end where everything seems to drift to. However, the on/off switch is too close to the lights, making it difficult to have the lights further into the box.

The strips would be perfect for lighting in utility trailers, motor-home cargo spaces, and the bow of a motorboat. If there isn't a 12-volt power source, Access also has a battery system LED available from jbspowercentre.com or agricover.com. TruXedo also has a battery-powered truck-bed lighting system through Amazon.ca.
